What Is Plus-Size Liposuction?
Most plastic surgeons will only provide liposuction procedures to patients whose BMI is under 30. This is to ensure that the chance of potential complications is minimized. Your Consultation
Your consultation with Dr. Hennessy will start by discussing your goals and conducting a physical evaluation. He will also check your medical records to determine if the procedure is safe for you.
Dr. Hennessy will create a treatment plan and discuss its details with you. You can ask any questions and he will be happy to answer them. He will give you instructions to prepare for plus-size liposuction, and you will likely need to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.
The Procedure
The plus-size liposuction procedure may last between one and three hours, depending on treatment areas and amount of fat to be removed. It will be performed under “awake” liposuction, where the patient is awake throughout the surgery. Local anesthesia is utilized for numbing.
Small incisions will be created to access the fat deposits. A power-assisted cannula will be inserted into an incision, and then excess fat will be loosened. It will be removed with medical suction. The incisions will be bandaged after the procedure is complete.
The Recovery Process
After the plus-size liposuction procedure, the patient will need to rest and recover. The general recovery period after “awake” liposuction is 48 hours. Dr. Hennessy will provide the patient with recovery instructions, including when certain physical activities can be resumed.
Minor pain and discomfort may be experienced during recovery, and bruising and swelling may be present. Painkillers will be prescribed, and patients will need to wear post-surgical elastic garments to control swelling. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to check on the patient’s results and healing process.
